VII won by 43 points
The
39th final of the Charles Stampe Trophy Competition was played out at Sturdee
on Tuesday, as customary in the presence of Mrs Stampe who presented the prizes.
The finalists, Anchorians II had
ended their season mid-table in the first division while the Howard VII juniors
after promotion from division five the previous year had ended up 4th in division
four.
Anchorians knew they were
going to have an uphill task against youngsters who took full advantage of their
favourable 5 - 15 starts with an open attacking play.
However,
in the opener Paul Norman kept Paul Welsh in check and lost by just one point
over the two legs. Sean McMillan was not so fortunate and went down 49 - 62 to
Alex Blow, Enticknap replied with a 62 - 44 trouncing of Sam Driver to give the
seniors a four-point advantage while Welsh shared the legs with McMillan to level
the score. Driver excelled defeating Norman and McMillan by 47 - 63 and 45 - 62
score-lines respectively to give the under-dogs a comfortable lead and although
Enticknap clawed back nine points at Welsh's expense, Blow sealed victory beating
Norman 46 - 62 to win overall by 43 points.
